Award-winning Bar Manager

Quarry Bar Manager Recognized for Mixology Skills
SAN ANTONIO—A free round-trip ticket to anywhere in the U.S. and bragging rights as the Cinco Vodka Cocktail Contest winner belong to Rupert Cuellar, Quarry Golf Club bar manager.
Cuellar, who recently earned the title “master of Cincology,” entered his unique Quarry Limoncello recipe in Cinco Vodka’s February cocktail contest. The online voting community selected his limoncello as the winning drink recipe.
Nearly 500 people voted and almost 200 of those votes were for Cuellar’s limoncello, said Kimberly Reese Azar, founder of Cinco Vodka.
“We’re big fans of his,” said Azar. Apparently, so is the online public, because Cuellar’s limoncello won by nearly 100 votes.
“Rupert is known throughout South Texas for his infused alcohols and engaging personality,” said Mike Riou, director of food and beverages at The Quarry. “We’re proud of his accomplishment, but not surprised—his mixology skills are top-notch.”
Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy. Cuellar’s process for this hand-crafted limoncello begins with allowing lemon zest and Cinco Vodka to ferment for 21 days.
Cuellar performs a secret step—which he won’t reveal—on day 14. Then, after 21 days, he adds simple syrup and garnishes with a slice of lemon and cherry.
“I entered this recipe because I constantly hear raving reviews from our guests about The Quarry Limoncello,” said Cuellar. “I’ve even had customers who are world-travelers tell me our limoncello is better than ones they have had in Italy.”
Cuellar plans on using his ticket to take a trip with his girl friend to Oregon, where they will camp on the coast and visit friends for his birthday.
The Quarry Golf Club is located at 444 East Basse Road in San Antonio, Texas. The bar is open from 7 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 7 a.m.- 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The bar is open from 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Sunday.
