Review of Live Music

Last week The Quarry celebrated the day of triple "11s" with a weekend full of live music. Three days, three musical artists and three different genres of music.

11/10/11 featured Austin Forrest (R&B/soul). Austin is kind of a recent "regular" at The Quarry in that we've been fortunate to host him three or four times this fall. We love his R&B/soul music, especially on the chilly fall evenings around the fire pit.

11/11/11 featured Lindsey Kane (acoustic pop). Lindsey performed acoustic pop cover tunes, ranging from Katy Perry to Destiny's Child. Lindsey was also a "first" for The Quarry this fall--the first female musician to perform as part of the fall live music lineup on the patio. We enjoyed her beautiful voice and the vocal flair she lent to popular cover songs like Just the Way You Are

11/12/11 featured Garrett Heinrichs (Texas country). Garrett has played at The Quarry before, but this was his first time to play on a Saturday--in fact, it was our first time to host live music on a Saturday! The Quarry normally hosts music on Thursdays and Fridays in the fall, but we had a special request for live music on Saturday by a local alumni group requesting live music for their high school reunion. It was an enjoyable night!

In addition to being a "first" in terms of music on a Saturday night, it was also a "first" for having one song dedicated specifically to a young child in the group.

What a fun weekend! This week's live music lineup features James Vives.Vives has performed once before at The Quarry and it was a PACKED night, so you won't want to miss this awesome performance on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Enjoy a fall night Quarry-style with free live country, blues and rock music from Garrett Heinrichs—a San Antonio-native and Texas country/Americana musician. His love for music as a child drove him to explore instruments during his adolescence, including guitar, drums and mandolin. Heinrich’s family exposed him to various types of music including oldies, blues, country and rock and roll. The diversity of his musical interests influenced Heinrich as he began writing his own music at the age of 17 and contributed to the development of his hybrid sound of country/ blues/ rock.

Enjoy Heinrich’s entertaining show, an unparalleled view of rolling hills and rock formations and tasty dishes!

Live Music with Austin Forrest

The Quarry Golf Club has successfully hosted live music on Thursdays for several months now (thanks for all of your support!). This past week we hosted live music on Thursday and FRIDAY, for the first time ever.

Ausitn Forrest performed for a crowd of about 65 people on The Quarry outdoor patio from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The intimate gathering loved his personal renditions of favorite tunes from Jimi Hendrix, Jim Croce and John Mayer, as well as his own compositions like "She Breathes".

His slightly-raspy yet soothing bluesy/blue-eyed/soul voice coupled with popular tunes, neat musical "toys" that made him sound as if he were in a duo and the stunning view of rock cliffs and green rolling hills certainly all played a part in contributing to the perfect fall evening.

We had families in attendance with darling little ones, young and mature couples (I hesitate to say "older") on their weekly date night and large groups gathered for a friendly get-together. Clearly, there's something about The Quarry live music nights that appeals to everyone.

And of course I'm biased, but I love the food! I enjoyed the Chop Chop Salad, my husband had fajitas and a friend of ours devoured the famous Fish & Chips. I'm hungry again just thinking about the delicious spread and it's only 10 a.m.!

We have free live music again this week on Thursday and Friday. So join us Thursday, Sep. 29 for Charlie and the Coolcats with classic oldies or come party on the patio on Friday, Sep. 30 with Jonathan Moody (the human acoustic jukebox) with his country/contemporary musical style.

Free Live Music Thursday (folk rock) & Friday (soul)

We’ve got a live music line-up this week that’ll get you dancing in your computer chair; so before you hurt yourself, come join us on The Quarry outdoor patio for this Thursday and Friday’s live music.

Thursday, Sep. 22 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.:
Manford Place (indie/folk rock)

Join The Quarry for free live indie folk rock music this Thursday with Manford Place. Be prepared for energetic music and delicious food and drinks, too!

Manford Place is a four-piece acoustic band based in San Antonio, Texas. The band infuses its original indie folk rock style with a wide range of recognizable covers. With three lead singers in the band, Manford Place has the ability to keep audiences engaged with their harmonies as well as each singer’s unique voice. The new arrangement of members has certainly created an excited buzz throughout San Antonio. With their combination of original songs, diverse covers and their energetic stage presence, Manford Place continues to win over crowds all over South Central Texas.

Friday, Sep. 23 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.:
Austin Forrest (blues/soul/R&B)

Come to The Quarry Golf Club for free bluesy/blue-eyed soul/R&B music this Friday with Austin Forrest. Get ready for great music, good company and delicious food and drinks.

Having grown up in Georgia and North Carolina, Austin Forrest brings his love of soul music to San Antonio, with influences ranging from Stevie Wonder and James Taylor to D’Angelo and John Mayer. He enjoys surprising audiences with unique renditions of popular tunes by lending his own rhythm and blues vocal flair and by garnishing songs with swinging guitar leads. His music is best described as bluesy, blue-eyed soul kind of pop and adult contemporary (John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Bill Withers, etc.) with some toys on the pedal board, making his music sound like a duo.

And, of course, we’ve always got great happy hour specials after 5 p.m., for food and drinks.

The Quarry--it’s the place to be.
