Quarry Hosts PGA Junior Series

The Quarry Golf Club has been selected as a tournament host for the 17th Annual Professional Golf Association (PGA) Junior Series this summer.

We are thrilled to add The Quarry to our list of championship caliber courses we will visit in our eight stops in 2012” said Mike Schanne Jr., championship manager of the PGA of America.

The PGA Junior Series takes place at eight prestigious golf courses throughout the country over a two-month period, wherein approximately half of the participants in each field are from the host-state and half represent golfers from other states across the nation.

“We are very excited to return to South Texas. This will be our first event at The Quarry and our first visit to San Antonio,” Schanne said.

The tournament at The Quarry Golf Club will take place July 2-3, 2012, and the winners will earn exemptions into the 37th Junior PGA Championship. The top 10 finishers will receive points towards the Junior Ryder Cup.

“The Quarry will be a unique test of golf for the top junior players in the U.S.,” said Dustin Burell, general manager at The Quarry Golf Club.

“Between the 100-foot-rock walls and tall native grasses, our course offers our version of Southern hospitality and rich Texas history,” Burell said. “We’re honored to share our course with the nation’s finest young talent.”

The mission of the PGA Junior Series is to promote golf through affordable and competitive national playing opportunities in professionally-supervised events organized by The PGA of America. The 17th Annual PGA Junior Series continues to provide global and national exposure for each of the 156 plus player fields. Each event is nationally ranked in the Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, provides an unparalleled golf experience. Although privately-owned, The Quarry is open to the public for daily use. The front nine resembles a links-style course while the back nine is laid-out in an old limestone quarry pit, once used to harvest materials used in construction of buildings such as the Texas State Capitol. The Quarry Golf Club opened in December of 1992 and is home to an award-winning golf course, pro shop and casual dining restaurant.
